Budget overruns are the most common source of stress in any construction project. Most of them can be avoided with careful planning before the first brick is laid.
Start with a detailed scope
A rough idea of "a three-bedroom house" is not enough to estimate accurately. Finalise drawings, structural design and a finishes schedule early, so every quote is based on the same assumptions.
Break the budget into phases
- Design, approvals and site preparation
- Foundation and structure
- Masonry, plumbing and electrical
- Finishes, interiors and external works
Keep a contingency
We recommend setting aside a contingency of around 8 to 10 percent for unforeseen site conditions and material price movements. Stage-wise payments linked to work progress also keep cash flow predictable for both client and contractor.
“Transparency in estimates builds trust. Every client should know exactly what they are paying for at each stage.”
